Students and Teachers

Sunrise Drive serves 570 students enrolled in Kindergarten through grade 5.

The overall school student to teacher ratio is 22 to 1.

Twenty-five homeroom teachers in grades Kindergarten through Fifth instruct the students in mathematics, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Health.

The students benefit from the expertise of additional instruction beyond the homeroom: Music, Band, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Special Education, Read Strong, Speech and Language, English Language Learning, Gifted Education, and Robotics.


School Achievements

  • Sunrise Drive students are top performers on the Spring 2016 AzMERIT standardized test in Mathematics and English Language Arts.
  • Chinese Immersion Academic Team competed at the UA Confucius Institute (UACI) Language and Culture Day in September 2016
    • 1st Place in Chinese Drama Performance Elementary Level
    • 1st Place in School Overall Performance at the
  • Sunrise Drive Chess Team sent a large contingent of very young players to the Arizona State Scholastic Chess Championships in April 2016
    • K-1 Team earned 1st place
    • K-3 Primary Team earned 12th Place Overall
  • Sunrise Drive hosted a large science fair with 140 Kindergarten through fifth grade entries. Fifteen entries advanced to the 2016 Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation competition in March 2016.
  • Sunrise Drive Spelling Bee Winners competed in the CFSD Spelling Bee, January 2016.
  • Sunrise Drive First Lego League, The Box Bots, won the Performance Award at the regional tournament and competed at the state level, December 2015.
  • Sunrise Drive was recognized as a participating school in the Partnership for 21st Century Learning (P21) Exemplar District award.

Campus

The school was built in 1968.

The campus has grown overtime expanding to sixteen buildings.

The beautiful facility has been remodeled to offer students beautiful classrooms, wireless SMART technology, Art Studio, Music Studio, Multipurpose Room, Library, and outdoor meeting areas.

The spacious outdoor play areas include a combination of shaded areas, play structures, swing sets, courts and fields.

The campus is locked during the instructional day. Visitors must check in at the School Office.


Chinese Immersion Program

CFSD Chinese Immersion Program is offered K-4 at Sunrise Drive. This will be expanded to K-5 in the 2017-2018 school year.

The program follows a 50/50 Immersion model with students receiving instruction in English and Mandarin.

The four program goals support students’ success:

oStudents meet or exceed achievement levels in all areas of the district curriculum.

oAcquire a high level of communicative and academic proficiency in English and Chinese.

oGain an appreciation of other cultures and deeper understanding of their own culture.

oIncrease capacity for creative thinking and problem solving skills.

In Kindergarten through grade 4, 40% of Sunrise Drive students are enrolled in the Chinese Immersion Program.


World Languages Kindergarten - Grade 5

Students in the traditional program participate in Spanish for two hours each week.

Students in the Chinese Immersion program participate in Chinese Literacy and Culture for two hours each week.


Family and Faculty Organization (FFO)

The FFO is devoted to supporting the academic and social growth of our students

The FFO provides school-wide and classroom volunteers and financial resources to support classroom learning, field trips, artists in residency programs and community building events


School Hours

Students are in school from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

On early release Thursdays, students are dismissed at 1:30 PM.

The School Office is open between 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.


Registration and Enrollment

Registration for neighborhood students begins December 5, 2016 and can be accessed through the link provided by the district or the SD School Office at 209-7901.

Open enrollment applications are submitted online beginning November 1, 2016. The online application may be accessed on the CFSD website at http://www.cfsd16.org/ .

The School Office Staff is available to support the registration process.

School Tours are scheduled throughout the year and participants may reserve a spot by calling 209-7901.
